28 September, Tuesday, 14.30 – 16.30 Parallel session: Educating for online safety Presentation title: Child participation and online safety Child participation is a right and a key concept that describes the extent of children's involvement, as active participants, within the society. As referring to ICT, most children and youths could be seen as experts in the use of Internet and the devices related to this magical world. They are always up to date and curious about it and some of them understand how to identify the potential risks children may be exposed to. Thus, their knowledge represents a resource scarcely utilized in educational activities aiming to increase online safety among children, but also in regard to teachers' and parents' abilities to understand and positively check their pupils'/children's online presence. The presentation includes methods and best practices to encourage meaningful child participation. It will also describe the International Safer Internet Summer School, which took place between 11th and 17th of July in Romania, this year. |
